The initial prototype was controlled by a Delta PLC and HMI combination.
This was subsequently changed to a custom controller and HMI, which
necessitated the design and manufacture of two printed circuit boards
(PCB's). A PCB for the custom controller and a power supply PCB for the
HMI.
I designed the controller with three communication buses. One high
speed bus for the load cell controller, a slightly lower speed bus for the
six belt VFD's, and another lower speed bus for the HMI. This kept the
overall program scan time lower to allow for faster response times for the
weighing.
I carried out the design and routing for the PCB's, and they were etched
and populated overseas.
